The Retro Rocket is the nickname for the new BMW Z07 that will be brought to America in mid '99 being called the Z8.  The retro looks were designed by Dutchman Adrian van-Hooydonk to commemorate the '56-'59 BMW 507, which only 252 were made.  It's stunning 440 horse powered engine will be shared from the upcoming BMW M5.  In the M5, though, it will have almost 40  horse power less.  This black rocket that is shown is about 173 inches long, and has a wheelbase measured at 106.3 inches long.  It has 275/45ZR-18 tires.  It will also way only 2970 pounds.  Not bad considering that the Ferrari F355 ways 200 more.

The Z07 shown here has a detachable roof, so that it can be either a coupe or a roadster.  But that probably won't be how it will end up. There is talk of a foldable metal roof, but nothing has been decided.  Even though this looks perfect, it is not yet the real thing.  Many parts will be added, as also taken away.

This wonderful piece of art also has one heck of an engine under the hood. It's 5.0 liter V8 engine is loaded with 440 horses, good for a 0-60 in 4.2 seconds.  Though it could obviously go much faster, the car is electronically limited to 156 mph.  And the price?  A mere $95,000!!!  Well consider this fact,  it can bring you more horsepower than a Ferrari F355 or a Porsche 911 Turbo.
