1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingraywww.supercars.net

1963 was a watershed year in the evolution of the Corvette. Starting for the first time since the Vettes 1953 introduction with a clean sheet of paper, Zora Arkus-Duntov at last had the opportunity to give the world the Corvette he had dreamed of. Using a simple but sturdy steel ladder frame as a base, he hung independent suspension and (by 1965) disc brakes on each corner, bolted in a selection of V-8s capped with the mighty 396 (later 427) big block, and topped it off with breathtaking styling straight from Bill Mitchells Stingray racer. The result - a legendary musclecar, available to mere mortals at a price (about $4400 U.S. base) significantly lower than European rivals such as Jaguars E-Type. Clean examples of the original 1963 split window coupe and big block editions now rank among the most collectible classic Corvettes.
